A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:

1. Liu Shiyuan: As Simple As Clay

The Yuz Project Room is an independent exhibition program inviting artists to create site-specific work within the Yuz Museum. The initiative that began in September continues with Liu Shiyuan’s As Simple As Clay project. Splitting her time between Beijing and Copenhagen, Liu projects her multicultural life through various media like photography, collage, installation and video. The show opens on November 13 from 6-8pm. It’s a big weekend for the museum, which premieres their Yuz Talk series on November 15 from 4-5pm with an English-language talk between museum founder Budi Tek and museographer/scenographer Adrien Gardère in preparation for their massive 2016 Giacometti Retrospective, feting the most important sculptor of the 20th century, Alberto Giacometti. And of course, the ever-popular Rain Room remains at the Yuz Museum until December 31.

Shanghai super-artist Xu Zhen’s PIMO art brand teams up with mega collector David Chau and the Cc Foundation to bring the PIMO Arts Festival to Xu’s MadeIn studios in Songjiang. Artists like Shen Fan, Gao Lei, Li Qing and more will have open studios, with the 45-minute performance piece Inventing Ritual being a highlight.
> Nov 18-23. MadeIn Company, Bldg 3, 5808 Shenzhuan Gong Lu, by Dongye Lu 沈砖公路5808号3号楼, 近洞业路

5. In Memory of a Landscape II: Lu Song, Wei Jia and Xie Fan

201511/memorylandscape.jpg

Following their highly acclaimed 2014 exhibition, James Cohan hosts the sequel. Lu Song, Wei Jia and Xie Fan have crafted works that use landscapes as a metaphor for self. Unlike the original exhibition that explored landscapes of decay, this one focuses on scenes that are mystical and evoke a neo-utopia or Garden of Eden.
> Nov 18-Jan 3. James Cohan Gallery.

6. Unordinary Space

Aurora Museum invites contemporary artists Liu Shiyuan, Yin Xiuzhen and Gentucca Bin to create site-specific works to complement its wonderful collection of antiques. The pieces are centered around Yin’s Digestive Cavity installation (pictured above is Yin’s Introspective Cavity). Expect a variety of works that explore the space as a container, surface and a digital platform.
> Nov 19-Feb 28. Aurora Museum.
